Together we are Stronger

Greetings from Vale das Lobas, a valley in the highlands of Portugal, where we are creating a nature and health sanctuary to touch the heart and inspire the soul. It began as a dream in 2006, and lead to a quest. In the dream was a river valley, above 400m, with no industrial farming, with ancient olive groves, chestnut forests, a village with elders still working in the ancestral ways, and a Solar, with terraces and water mines. When we first entered the enchanted gardens of Solar de Girões, in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela, the spirit of the land welcomed us home, and we knew we had arrived. This would be the place to create our sanctuary. After buying the properties and the lands, we set about recovering this ancestral treasure from the spell of abandonment. The project has been through many phases. After Turismo de Portugal granted support for the creation of facilities for Nature Tourism, The Ceremony of the First Stone was attended by the Secretary of State for Tourism, and the Bishop of Viseu.  The pandemic presented great challenges, but working together, as a community with a common vision, we continue to advance towards the manifestation of this dream quest.

The mission is to restore health, revitalise community and regenerate biodiversity. The nature and health sanctuary includes a Nature Spa, a Camping Park, a farm-to-table Restaurant, and an Artisan Village, with 26 eco-homes, all built with sustainable construction techniques and natural materials. Vale das Lobas is comprised of 60 hectares of land, including forests, terraces and meadows, all farmed with regenerative agriculture. The harvested crops will supply the restaurants. There will be a herd of horses, cared for holistically. We will produce natural food, body care, home care and medicinal products for the market place. Vale das Lobas will open to the public in stages beginning in early 2023. The visitor services will include well-being retreats, courses, conferences, and community arts and music festivals. Participation will be through a membership program.
The dream of a sanctuary for health and Nature is close now to realisation. It is a vision expansive enough for other dreams and visions to exist within it.
